Universal Wrench

1975 is our known date of the Wenger Universal wrench and it got many different shapes and variations. Some variations are not be used for dating, they are production variations. Some changes must be looked upon as so large that they are or can be used for dating. On the pictures you can see different Universal wrenches from Wenger. They are from the late 70s until 2005.

The biggest change is the cut notches and especially the much larger notches made this tool much better on bolts, so far I have placed this change in 1989.

The Universal wrench is a Wenger exclusivity and part of the special S557 for example; usually this tool is much seen on the knives in the 1980s so it is up until today a very used and known tool.

On the pictures you can see many types that show changes on this tool and some production variations. It is a solid function and used to turn bolts and screws. One of the sides of the bolt will go along the flat section and one of the edges on a bolt will go into one of the cut notches and then one may turn.

It is easy to use and I do not need to show it is action.

Evolution late 70s and up

to collect Wenger knives and to learn about them is both fun and interesting!

Update

Wenger exclusivities knife

With Universal wrench, this type is very modern. The wrench tool on knives have variations in the 2000s and from 2005 evolution.

02.11.2020 Universal Wrench

Victorinox continued the Universal wrench exclusivity from Wenger. At first glance some could find this a bit strange looking and perhaps wonder what it is for? It is actually a very good tool that is as the name “universal” to be used for anything.  I discovered that it is a very good "maritime sphere tool". It is up to the imagination for what use it could fit.

Hi, thank you very much for question. The brass rivets/pins should be the same on the 91mm if same age. There could be some diff. tolerances.
