Press fit scales

This possibility in production and for personalizing is brilliant. In the development for a modern Swiss Army Knife and versatility this is extra important. This is used by Wenger as well but Victorinox used the private changing of the scales on a larger business.

Factors for why it is important both private and professionally:

-          Production

-          Advertising and profiling

-          Personalizing

-          Damaged scales

-          Versatile impression

-          Easy changing of the handles

-          Quality ( it tells that the Brand care for private change factor)

-          Innovation

-          Functionality

There are some minor negative factors as well but I will not mention them.

Here you see my latest Victorinox SAK which is a beautiful condition 91mm advertising model. It got the same functions you find on the Climber model but without key-ring. It is an advertising model with blue scales and it is maybe from the late 1990s. Crossair is for the name used by this airline at the time. There is only some very small scratches on the scales and the functions looks like new. It is a really nice find! The scales used on SAKs can be very versatile.

This is my latest 91mm Victorinox advertising SAK with the same tool configuration as the Spartan model. The condition is very good with only some small scratches on the scales. The advert is for a hardware store just one hour from where I live. I have seen several of these over the years so there must have been a good number made. It is always a challenge to date these knives. The first impression says 1993-1999 made. Quality knives give me a very positive impression.

22.10.2021 beautiful design

On the picture to the right you can see my Budding and Pruning knife 3. This is from the 100mm category and you can see the exposed rivets. This is a very nice tool! The other one is the Classic Limited 2021 Eagle Flight 58mm. This design is super nice I must say. The advantages with press fit scales are several but one obvious from the picture is how the complete scale and scales can be used for such designs. Even the tweezers and toothpick can have colors and shades to complete the image the best. On the picture below you can see the beautiful design the best.

There are no scrathes on the design, it is just a very reflective surface:)

27.10.2021 Mango Tango

I am glad I managed to buy one of these new 58mm Classic SD knives. This one is called mango tango with a beautiful orange shade. During the last years we see more colors and innovations.

21.05.2022 Jussi

Here you see my latest 84mm SAK with the Jussi decoration with origins from Finland. I really enjoy this Sportsman model and design on it. Press fit handle scales got several advantages as you know. Because there are no visible or open rivets you can use almost the full handle for such. Both scales got the white/red Jussi design. Advantages like these are useful for profiling and advertising markets too. You could use designs over the complete handle if needed. On some SAKs the emblem is on the backside or there could be no emblem at all.

The 120mm continued after the New Ranger. They had Patent and not pat pend. I say pat pend first then patent next. But! Wenger did many variations! :)

The old Ranger 120mm is from 1991, on my 1993 it is pat pend I have seen it on 1991 too and Swissbuck as well! Wenger can be a minefield because of variations

It is a superb question. Wenger used different stamps, some because of european laws. Usually the quality and steel is the same. Which is first? Not sure.
