The Victorinox 111mm Rucksack is one of the most known models. It is fun to follow the development and I do have a few Rucksack knives in my collection and I also have one that I have used. There are different evolution and modifications done to it over the years. I was curious about the new tang stamp on this knife and the new modification done to the slide-slide-lock mechanism. I was interested in finding any special small modifications on the new stamp on the tang of the blade.

I knew that the small v new stamp came before the new modifications on the slide-lock mechanism. So far I have only found production variations.

Take a look at my information on the 111mm slide-lock modifications done on the 111mm category on the Hunter. It is the same on the Rucksack.

Here are some Rucksack knives and i can understand why this is one of the most popular. This is because it got a tool selection that is useful for many tasks. It is slim and lightweight and it got some advantages over the 91mm category because it is larger and got a locking mechanism. It is more comfortable to use this category compared to the 91mm line as well. It got large size tools in a slim and useful package. I have more Rucksack knives with modifications and evolution. I had one older one before that I gave away years ago, I regret that now.

The Rucksack sparked my interest for the 111mm slide lock category. Use, quality, functionality, evolution, modifications, stampings and much more.

More knives update

Here are two more Rucksack knives and the one on the left got the big V Swiss Made stamp. The right one got the stamp used before that again.

26.09.2020 Rucksack

This is my latest Victorinox 111mm slide lock knife. It is a model I have several of from before called the Rucksack. This one came in a blister type packaging. This is one of my favorite models because it is so lightweight, slim and functional. The Forester model liner locking is the model that replaced the Rucksack.

It is mentioned around that the slide-lock category is retired. This you can see from all the new releases of the liner-locking models during the last years. That said I am not 100% convinced that the slide-lock is completely gone. Victorinox is such a gigantic Company that only time will tell. It is for sure that most of the models are transformed into the services range construction and that after the merging of the two factories we got a new product range that could have influenced it. To be honest I am a fan of the services range construction but I also very much like the slide-lock models. Many enjoy the lightweight, slim and the nice functionality on them. They will go a long way for most things.

So I decided to secure myself another Rucksack because it is probably a model that will be missed. So far it is possible to get several of the older models if you search the web. This one got the big V tang stamp and open spring construction. About the Big V I do wonder some on it. If Victorinox use both big V and small v still based on other knives I have seen. Anyhow this is a very nice Rucksack SAK!

I placed the SAK on a scale and it is 102 grams! I am not sure what product that can beat this. It is also a rather solid SAK. With this wicked wood saw and large locking blade you get the enhanced functionality that was requested.  This category seen use by civilians as well as military. In the 1980s when this category was introduced it represented an enhanced functionality.

The 120mm continued after the New Ranger. They had Patent and not pat pend. I say pat pend first then patent next. But! Wenger did many variations! :)

The old Ranger 120mm is from 1991, on my 1993 it is pat pend I have seen it on 1991 too and Swissbuck as well! Wenger can be a minefield because of variations

It is a superb question. Wenger used different stamps, some because of european laws. Usually the quality and steel is the same. Which is first? Not sure.
