-Here is a small insight of my philosophy.

For the military services, tactical functions and tools for use on gear and equipment only:

The multi-tool or versatile knives alone are not enough for the complete need during operations. The ultimate tools today includes one hand opening knife blade with locking function, scissors, wood saw, metal file, screwdrivers and basic functions. A rescue blade is of greater importance today. See Rescue blades.

It would be the safest method that the individual persons in a team got a selection of tools needed for personal and tactical needs.  Even so it would be necessary for the possibility for team tools. See Team tools.

I would recommend using multi-tools with the possibility for additional functions or the possibility for combination tools. See Ratchet page and Leatherman Piranha page.

It would be of vital importance that the individual persons know how to use the functions and how to improvise. See improvisation page.

It is very important to go over all gear and equipment before-hand to learn what tools and functions would be needed in a repair situation.

It is important that it would be possible to sharpen blades in the field. See sharpening page

Swiss Army Knives got the ability to adapt into almost any setting. Many Swiss Army Knives got the basic and most important functions. You can add layers of functions to them and by doing so you can direct them into special or universal designations.

It is also a clear indication when larger categories are made that you are targeting wider audiences too. SAKs are the most adaptable and versatile knives I know about.  MTs, SAKs and fixed blade knives stand on the top there.

I believe I have touched most aspects and philosophies in the links I made a good time ago on the top of this page. It is truly interesting for me to look upon the different knives and the mindset, history and designations behind them from the factories. This is why I like to have a widespread interest and many categories with SAKs. In my opinion it is better to have more functions than too few. It is almost the same with using flint, firesteels and ancient methods for making a fire when you can bring a lighter. Isn’t it better to be equipped instead of being cold and wet? If you have a lighter or matches and a firesteel isn’t this better? I understand very much that one must in some situations reduce the number of items because of weight. I do believe some things are more important than others still. Magnifying glass could perhaps start a fire if necessary. It is for sure something you would have to train and practice for first. Having a magnifying glass is very helpful for removing ticks, splinters and such. It is very helpful to read very small details too. It is about picking the best and correct knife or tools for you.

I respect 100% people that could survive with just a fixed blade knife and the training people do with this. Worship your interests in deed.

I would be very glad if you would take a tour on my webpage. There is a large universe of SAKs today.

Remington knife.

The Remington knife above is in very nice condition. It is interesting with two different knife blades on it. Blade shapes that you can find used a long time ago and just as useful today.

Some cyclists are very tactical in the way they plan for situations. They would bring certain tools so the basic repairs can be done without assistance. It is also so today that knives made before for such tasks could fall short today. The reason for this is the evolution on bicycles because they change constantly. This is why it is important to know all this beforehand.

Two very nice Victorinox SAKs:)

In the history of SAKs you will find knives made to help you for a safe journey. St.Christopher is a saint that could help travelers for example. The selection of functions is there to make necessary adjustments, repairs and for the obvious camp needs. These are SAKs that could fit almost any other tasks too. Pocket knives can have several designations with celebrations, events and special purpose functions for use on weapons.

The Remington knives are all in very nice condition, not any special age on them.  Some of the blade designs can have some age. I also like special purpose functions very much. Just as I like special purpose dedicated SAKs. The auto loading shotgun tool from Remington is very interesting. The Wenger cyclist could fit some bicycle demands still but for sure the selection of functions on them can be used for both EDC and any other tasks in deed. It is important to have a knife, some tools, something for fire and a light. These basic functions are just as important today as before. Good luck!
