Facts about a multi-tool plier

If you read my pages on the plier used on the SwissTool then you see my philosophy on this function as a multi-tool in itself. The importance of a plier for safety and rescue is absolute a factor forgotten by many. I have discussed very much about the different aspects and how the plier functions. It is absolutely also an impact tool. This is not a function mentioned in manuals usually and it is not a function you should use except for when it is necessary. If you open the plier and hold it firm in the hand and lock with the thumb you can break windows. A window can be broken with the fist if you are lucky, if you are stuck and in a situation that you cannot use full strength then the tip of the plier in closed mode may be used. It may work and here the needle nose may be better because it is much more pointy. It depends on how precise and how much force used. The plier is absolutely also an impact tool for holding abilities and this mean that if you go through the ice then it can be used in the same fashion, impact and hold for pulling. In a military sense the plier can be used as a weapon but so can many other things as well today. I am only interested in the safety of a tool.

It is important to use a tool correct and there are differences in an emergency compared to regular use. In the every day life for people there are several situations with injuries that happens every day. It may be a surprise to hear these injuries are the result of people using their hands and fingers for tasks. It is better to use MTs to prevent such problems. I have over the years talked with users of SAKs and MTs and when they are used to them then it is difficult to go without. MTs cannot do everything which is obvious and only natural. Pliers are just as useful in the outdoors as they are at home. For example MTs saves the hands from impact, injuries and also infections. If you cut yourself on fish teeth then you may have irritated skin there for several days. There are also poisonous fish which can result in hospital. The selection of functions can be used for repair, maintenance and a much more comfortable time in the outdoors. It gives confidence to bring it along in my experience.

SwissTool X

This is my trusted standard SwissTool. The model above is my latest SwissTool X model which is going in my collection. My SwissTool never fail.

10:03 Here you see the 1998 type pliers vs. the from and after 2010 type. It got some serious calibre the right one. Victorinox really know how to make MTs and Pliers. The jaw opening on the older is wider.

On the pictures you can see a SwissTool and my latest Gransfors Bruk mini hatchet. They got some really wicked edges! It is difficult for knives to compare with axes because they are designed for impact towards a surface better than most knives.

Pliers are some of the most useful tools in the outdoors. Having such a device can save the hands and fingers from injury and cuts. There are many obvious reasons for having pliers with you. I have experienced several times getting poisonous fish on my hooks. Without protective gloves you may have to step on it (with shoes)and pull the hook out by force. This is not recommended so I use pliers and something to hold over and disgorge. Trachinus draco or Fjesing called here got some strong poison which is not deadly but can cause serious pain and in some cases hospital. They recommend using hot water to neutralize the poison. Most people do not bring hot water with them that is ready at any moment. Therefore it is better to just take precautions when you get one on.

The biggest danger with Fjesing is when people step on it because it can be almost buried in the sand or bottom. It is not often this happens. I get one or two on my hooks every summer. This means it is a risk you could get one too. When you release it back after hook disgorging you can see the beautiful colors on this fish. It is amazing! Today it is extra important to be able to release fish after you catch it. Therefore pliers are important to bring along.

The 120mm continued after the New Ranger. They had Patent and not pat pend. I say pat pend first then patent next. But! Wenger did many variations! :)

The old Ranger 120mm is from 1991, on my 1993 it is pat pend I have seen it on 1991 too and Swissbuck as well! Wenger can be a minefield because of variations

It is a superb question. Wenger used different stamps, some because of european laws. Usually the quality and steel is the same. Which is first? Not sure.
